SouthWare FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Do we need programmers on staff to work with SouthWare?
- No, you do not. SouthWare is designed with many features that enable you to
customize the product to suit yourself.
Can we get source code?
- Yes, you can. However, it is not usually necessary.
The SouthWare Excellence Series is designed to be used without
modification. There are extensive tools to enable your operation to tailor the
installation to fit the way you do your business and to do the things that you
you may otherwise need the source to do. Here are some examples.
- There is extensive provision for customization of the standard product via:
|
- Configuration tables that match hardware configurations to your needs
- Operator customization to allow for "hot keys" and
"breakouts" to often-used screens
- The ability to "customize keystrokes" allows questions
to be pre-answered, thereby reducing the complexity and speeding up data entry
- The macro recording capability also provides for the ability to automate
recurring processes
- But we may want to add fields! This need is covered in another
standard SouthWare product, Extended Data
|
Want to have a data base? SQL, Report Writer?
- You may want to produce summary reports or special reports that are not
generally in other systems. The SouthWare Excellence
Series provides for this by their
ReportMate® product.
- You may want to design SQL queries to look up details or otherwise look up
information. These are frequently not necessary because of the SouthWare®
capability to "drill down" into details. This ability is
built all through the system and does not need to be operated as a separate
program.
- The SouthWare® ExecuMate II® Module
provides "front-end"screens that are easy for the busy
executives to learn and use to do the inquiries and "drills down"
into details.
We may need to import old data or do maintenance of some of the records
outside the system.
|
- SouthWare provides for data import via an easy-to-use
ImportMate Module. It provides a means of
importing numbers from a system used previously. It is also useful in bringing
in data from other applications. For example, a CAD system may produce a bill of
materials (BOM). This can be easily imported into a sales order so that the
SouthWare Purchasing Module can assist in ordering from the BOM.
- The ReportMate® Module provides an easy
way to get information out of the system so that it can be used by external
programs. These may include a mail-merge file for automating a mailing list or
it may also involve passing the information into a spreadsheet for computational
work.
- These two modules can be used in conjunction with each other and the
outside software to enhance the preparation of pricing changes, changes in major
vendors, etc.

SouthWare has covered the need to do much of what you might otherwise need source code to do. If however, you find an application that the above mentioned products do not accommodate, the source code is available, and there
are developers standing by to do the work for you!
